Who we are

NYC Watchdog ("we", "us") runs this website, a free NYC property lookup, and a live-monitoring service (free for one property, paid plans for more) that emails customers about new City records on their buildings. We are an independent service and are not affiliated with the City of New York.

Information you give us

When you use the trial / contact form we store what you type: your name, email, and, if you choose to give them, your phone number, company, number of properties, boroughs, plan interest, any properties you selected on the lookup page, and your message. We also store the date, your browser's user-agent string and the page you came from, so we can spot spam.

We use this information only to contact you about NYC Watchdog and to set up the service you ask for. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers. We don't send you anything unless you ask us to contact you.

The free property lookup

• You don't need an account to search. We don't ask for your name or email to run a lookup.
• The addresses you search are sent to our servers and to public NYC data services (NYC Open Data and NYC Planning's GeoSearch, which also powers the address suggestions in your browser) to fetch the records. Lookup results may be cached for a short time to keep the site fast.
• Results show public City records about buildings. For owners, we show business entity names only (for example an LLC). We never show individual people's names, phone numbers or home addresses.

Cookies and local storage

We don't use advertising or analytics cookies. If you pick properties on the lookup page and click to start a trial, the browser remembers that list in local storage so the form can show it; it is cleared after you submit. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads.

Service providers

The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes technical request data (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) to serve and protect the site. Form submissions are stored in private cloud storage on Vercel. If you become a monitoring customer, alerts are sent through email and text-message providers.

How long we keep it

We keep form submissions for as long as we need them to talk to you about the service, and delete them on request.

Your choices

You can ask us to show you, correct or delete what you've submitted. Send the request through the contact form (we'll reply to the email address you enter there).

Changes

We'll update this page if our practices change and change the date at the top.
